Homeschool Moment ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application.

1. Information We Collect

Information You Provide

• Account Information: When you create an account, we may collect your email address and name.
• Child Profiles: Names and birth dates of children you add to the app.
• Photos and Content: Images, PDFs, captions, subjects, dates, and other learning-moment details you choose to save.
• Household Information: Family membership, display names, roles, invitations, and the activity needed to keep a shared journal synchronized.
• Payment Information: If you subscribe to our premium service, payment is processed securely through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

Information Collected Automatically

• Device Information: App version, device type, operating system, and limited technical identifiers needed to operate and secure the service.
• Usage Data: Feature and screen events used to understand whether the app is working. We configure analytics to avoid collecting the contents of your photos, PDFs, or captions.
• Log Data: Error reports, stack traces, and diagnostic information used to improve reliability and investigate abuse.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide and maintain the Homeschool Moment service
• Process your subscription payments
• Generate educational descriptions and subject suggestions when you choose Photo Intelligence
• Synchronize a household journal across signed-in devices
• Enable optional Google Drive and iCloud Drive backups
• Send important service updates and notifications
• Improve and optimize the app experience
• Respond to your support requests

3. Data Storage and Security

Your data security is important to us:

• Account Sync: Account, household, child, moment, and media data are stored in our hosted service so authorized household members can use the same journal across devices. The app also keeps a protected local cache for performance and offline use.
• Optional Backups: Google Drive backups are stored in the Google account you connect. iCloud Drive backups are stored in the private iCloud container associated with your Apple account. These backups are separate from live account sync.
• Encryption: All data transmitted between the app and our servers is encrypted using industry-standard TLS/SSL.
• Payment Security: Payment information is processed by Apple or Google and never stored on our servers.
• Access Controls: Household records are scoped to authorized members. Invitations and account access are validated by the service before records are returned.

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following service providers where needed to operate Homeschool Moment:

• Apple: For Sign in with Apple, App Store payments, optional iCloud Drive backup, and—on supported iOS 27 or later devices—optional Apple on-device intelligence or Private Cloud Compute.
• Google: For optional Google sign-in, Google Play payments, Google Drive backup, and cloud Photo Intelligence when that option is used.
• OpenAI: As a cloud Photo Intelligence provider or fallback when that option is used.
• RevenueCat: To manage subscription status across supported app stores. Household members can inherit the owner’s access without being treated as separate purchases.
• PostHog: For product analytics and diagnostic error reporting. We disable network-based location enrichment and do not intentionally send learning photos, PDFs, or captions as analytics properties.
• Cloud infrastructure providers: To host the API, database, media storage, and security systems that synchronize your account.
• Expo: For distribution and updates of supported legacy app versions during the native-app transition.

Photo Intelligence is optional. The app identifies where analysis will occur. On Device Only keeps analysis on a compatible device. Apple Private Cloud uses Apple Private Cloud Compute. Homeschool Cloud sends the selected image to our cloud service and its configured AI provider to return a caption and subject suggestions. Strict Apple-only modes do not silently fall back to another provider.

Apple on-device image intelligence and Private Cloud Compute require iOS 27 or later, compatible Apple Intelligence availability, and an iOS 27-ready app build. Each third-party service has its own privacy policy governing its processing.

Connected assistants (optional)

You can choose to connect an assistant such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok or Muse to your Homeschool Moment records. Nothing is shared unless you connect one yourself.

• What it can read: the family you choose when you connect, its children’s first names and ages, and your learning moments (captions, dates, subjects and place names), subject totals and learning days. It never receives photos, videos, voice notes, files, birth dates, map locations, email addresses or payment details.
• What it can change: nothing, unless you tick the box that lets it add and edit moments. It can never delete anything. Every change it makes is recorded and listed for you.
• Sign-in: you sign in with a one-time code we email to the address on your account. We store only secure hashes of codes and access tokens, never the tokens themselves.
• The assistant’s own handling: what you ask and what the assistant reads is processed by that assistant’s provider under its own privacy policy and settings.
• Retention and control: access tokens expire after one hour and renew for up to 30 days of use. You can disconnect at any time at homeschoolmoment.com/connections or in the assistant’s settings. Deleting your account removes every connection and its records.

5. Children's Privacy

Homeschool Moment is designed for parents to document their children's education. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. All information about children is provided and controlled by their parent or guardian.

Parents have full control over their children's data and can delete it at any time through the app settings.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access: Request a copy of your personal data.
• Correction: Update or correct inaccurate information.
• Deletion: Delete your account and all associated data.
• Portability: Export your data in a standard format.
• Withdraw Consent: Opt out of non-essential data collection.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy in the app and updating the "Last updated" date.

Your continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
